Dos and Don’ts of Line Marking
Though it may look pretty simple at the outset, line marking needs a professional approach to give effective results. A single mistake can mar the job.
Listed below are important dos and don’ts of line marking:
How to get the most out of custom signs: Dos and Don’ts
Dos of line marking stencils
Concrete preparation must be done right before line marking.
Clean the concrete surface thoroughly. At Signblitz, we use water blasts to clean the surface and remove grime, dirt, debris, old paint, mould, etc.
The concrete should be left to dry sufficiently before line marking after water blasting.
If you are cleaning the concrete regularly, there should be a 12 hour gap before we can line mark car park signs or any other signs on the concrete.
Test a small concrete area for paint adhesion. Certain additives to the concrete prevent paint adhesion. Therefore, test checking for paint adhesion is critical.
Instead of going for ordinary line marking, go for reflective line marking to help prevent road accidents. Reflective line marking enhances low light areas when the car lights are switched on, and improves road visibility. Thus, it helps drivers stay in their lanes when driving, despite the poor lighting.
Don’ts of line marking
Do not linemark on wet or new concrete. Freshly laid concrete needs curing of 28 days before it can be painted. Car park signs painted within the curing period will peel off, giving the line marking an unprofessional look. Lack of clearly visible signs is often the cause behind accidents.
Do not line mark concrete when the rains are frequent. The concrete should be sufficiently dry for the line marking. The moisture content in the concrete should be 10% or less for it to enable professional looking, long lasting car park and other custom signs.
